Here's a little information about pastels: pastels are mostly
pure powdered pigment with a bit of binder to form the stick
shapes. Pastels are used with the fingers and are directly
applied to the support. This happy characteristic means that
colors are not mixed on a palette, but are mixed right on the
paper. This is what gives pastel paintings the vibrancy that
can't be duplicated by any other medium.
